The National Composites Centre (NCC, Bristol, U.K.) adds a new dimension to the way it delivers training with the launch of its new online training platform. With the increasing need to reskill and upskill employees in an affordable way, the NCC’s online training platform is designed to enable users from organizations of all sizes the opportunity to develop their knowledge by taking self-taught composites courses that they can access at any time, from any location.
Offered alongside a suite of practical and theory based, in-person courses taught by composites experts, the online courses provide users with an introduction to key topic areas to establish a firm base of understanding of composite materials, their applications and uses.
All the NCC’s courses have been developed by technical specialists, with those available online including “Introduction to Composite Materials,” “Introduction to Composite Design” and “Introduction to Measurement & Inspection.” More online courses will be available later in the year. Information about these, and the other training courses the NCC offers, can be viewed here.

“Part of our role as one of the seven High Value Manufacturing Catapult centers is to help the U.K.’s industries grow and develop, in our case enabling more businesses to make use of the many benefits composites can offer,” says Katy Riddington, strategic initiatives director at the NCC. “One way we do that is by helping people at all levels to understand these advanced materials and their applications through training. We know that it is not always possible to attend training courses in person — especially at the moment — so we wanted to make it as easy as possible for businesses of all sizes to keep developing.”
As well as set training courses, the NCC offers bespoke training, with courses tailor-made to suit the customer’s specific needs, whether that’s an in-depth focus on a core topic, customized content or lessons delivered on site with their equipment.
