Making wind energy affordable everywhere and for everyone — that is the motto embodied in startup TouchWind B.V.’s (Eindhoven, Netherlands) self-tilting, one-piece floating wind turbine. Unlike traditional three-blade rotors, the TouchWind rotor is a single component that self-adjusts, using aerodynamic lift to stay stable and to regulate power. It is meant to function continuously in deeper waters and wind speeds up to 70 meters/second, enables turbines to be installed closer to each other and reduces production costs.

The final design was made possible with partners rotor designer We4Ce (Almelo, Netherlands) and Kleizen (Hengelo, Netherlands), that delivered the first rotor sets to TouchWind in April 2025 for the company’s next prototype phase. We4Ce developed a novel production method using one-shot infusion for the central part of the fiberglass-reinforced epoxy rotor blade — eliminating bonding lines on the nose area of the aerodynamic shells will reduce leading edge erosion. Kleizen co-engineered and produced the complex mold that accommodated the blade geometry, tight tolerances and stringent performance requirements, as well as manufactured the entire rotor blades.
