NIAR's NCAMP announces release of first thermoplastic material

The National Center for Advanced Materials Performance (NCAMP), a laboratory within Wichita State University’s National Institute for Aviation Research (Wichita, Kan., U.S.) has reported the release of its first approved thermoplastic material: Toray Cetex TC1225, which is a low-melt polyaryletherketone (LMPAEK) and is available as a unidirectional (UD) tape, fabric prepreg or as a reinforced thermoplastic laminate.
According to Toray Advanced Composites (Morgan Hill, Calif., U.S.), Cetex TC1225 is a thermoplastic composite material comprising a semi-crystalline engineered PAEK resin. The product is said to exhibit high-temperature performance despite a processing temperature that is 50-75°C (122-167°F) compared to other PAEK materials.
NCAMP announced the beginning of the qualification process for this material in 2018.
