Northern Light Composites (nlcomp, Monfalcone Italy) announces the entry of Ocean Srl (Trieste, Italy), a long-established industrial player in the maritime sector led by Michela Cattaruzza, into its shareholder base. Nlcomp is also inaugurating its new rFactory in the Monfalcone Lisert Industrial Zone on July 24th— where the company is publicly unveiling for the first time its new Offshore 34 yacht, to be launched in October 2026.
Ocean Srl’s entry completes the reorganization of nlcomp’s shareholder structure. Today, the company combines the young founding partners who launched the project in 2020 with two major international shipping players — Ocean and Samer & Co. Shipping — and benefits from the participation of CDP Venture Capital, which invested through the Cleantech Accelerator. Ocean’s investment takes the form of a new capital increase, underlining its interest in sustainable marine technology, with a particular focus on the workboat segment.

“Our investment stems from two complementary rationales,” explains Michela Cattaruzza of Ocean. “On one hand, we are supporting a young local company made up of entrepreneurs who — like us — have the sea in their DNA and who are accelerating the transition toward sustainable, environmentally responsible practices. On the other, we are investing in a sector closely connected to our own, whose every element and context we know intimately. This puts us in a position to be a valuable partner for nlcomp, supporting the development of the market and benefiting directly from the R&D activities nlcomp will produce in the future.”
For nlcomp, the workboat segment represents a significant growth market, one that is now called to accelerate the transition toward low-impact materials and products. It is a challenge nlcomp is ready to take on by starting the design and industrialization of a new generation of workboats built with rComposite technology — the recyclable material developed in-house that delivers high performance and a circular life cycle validated by DNV for ISO 14021:2016.
“Ocean brings with it a deep understanding of the workboat market’s needs and a long experience in operating professional vessels in port and maritime environments — a great added value for us,” says Fabio Bignolini, CEO of nlcomp. “Ocean joining our shareholder base is an important step for our project. As we approach the inauguration of our factory in Monfalcone, we are progressing in the recreational boating sector with the production of yachts and components, developing our first projects in wind energy and — supported by Ocean — moving into the workboat segment.”
The new shareholder structure, thanks to the presence of two players such as Ocean and Samer & Co. Shipping, positions nlcomp with high visibility within the shipping and port logistics landscape — a sector in which nlcomp’s technologies represent a strategic tool to drive the transition toward more sustainable materials.
