James Composites LLC (Paducah, Ky., U.S.) a producer of fiberglass barge covers, plans to invest approximately $5.8 million to establish its first manufacturing facility in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The new operation, located at 390 Riverside Lane in Calvert City, is expected to bring expanded industrial capacity to the region.

The project leverages the site’s direct access to the Tennessee River via its marine ways system, enabling efficient production and distribution. Construction on the new facility is expected to be completed by November 2026, with operations slated to begin early in 2027. The 25 jobs created will focus on fiberglass manufacturing, fabrication and production roles, contributing to the skilled workforce in Western Kentucky.

“We are excited about the opportunity to start our fiberglass barge cover manufacturing operations in Calvert City,” says Jeff James, managing member of James Composites and president/CEO of James Marine. “This new business will allow us to create high-quality jobs here in the Commonwealth and provide an additional supply option for a vital product to the inland waterways barge market that we serve.”

Local leaders also celebrated the announcement, noting its positive impact on the region’s economy. Marshall County officials highlighted how the new facility supports community growth and the Kentucky Lake region’s strength in manufacturing and river-related industries.
