FiberJoint reinforcement patch improves through-the-thickness insert designs for sandwich composites
SNAPSHOT: Aalborg University study proves better static pull-out strength of sandwich composite inserts using FiberJoint to support longer-term reliability of marine structures.

FiberJoint (Nibe, Denmark), in collaboration with engineering students from Aalborg University’s AAU Materials and Production (Denmark), has achieved a 38% increase in pull-out strength for inserts in sandwich structures (compared to conventional inserts), paving the way for stronger, more durable marine applications.
The study, described in the paper “Novel Integration of Reinforcing Patches into Sandwich Composites for Enhanced Pull-out Strength,” investigates the integration of FiberJoint technology into through-thickness inserts for sandwich composites to enhance pull-out strength. Findings reveal the potential for further strength improvements by increasing patch fiber quantity in future designs.
The FiberJoints team, along with students Benjamin B., Thomas Janik Christiansen and Jakob Sloth Csikos, hope this work will help catalyze new ideas for innovative insert designs for composite structures.
