Automated fixation process simplifies composite sandwich panel manufacture
SECAMnida, a robotics-based solution developed by Secam Fixing Solutions and GEBE2, aims to increase production time and replace manual operations.
SECAMnida is an automated, potted-in insert fixation solution for honeycomb and metal composite sandwich panels, developed and launched by Secam Fixing Solutions (Marnaz, France) and automation specialist GEBE2 (Montaigu-Vendée, France).
The solution is intended to replace conventional manual fixing operations and to solve challenges in repeatability and time delays in production lines caused by handling, moving and fixing sandwich panel components manually.
SECAMnida is a four-step process:
- Drilling of the sandwich panel
- Crimping of the insert on the upper skin
- Injection of the two-component potting compound
- Filling control, with no additional finishing operations
Advantages of the system are said to include a simplified structure design with no extra reinforcement, high mechanical strength, four times faster installation with half the steps, weight reduction, decrease of production downtimes, and a simple process with no finishing needed.
