Royal3D B.V. (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) is launching the Interlayer Control System, a 3D printing innovation representing years of research and hands-on experience in industrial 3D printing that is designed to address one of the most persistent challenges in additive manufacturing (AM): ensuring consistent, high-quality prints.

3D printing enables complex designs and on-demand production, but maintaining quality control has remained a major hurdle. Small variations in temperature between layers can lead to misprints, poor layer adhesion, internal stresses, warping and wasted material. Traditionally, these issues are only identified after production, resulting in costly reprints, wasted resources and longer lead times.

In comparison, the Interlayer Control System provides real-time, continuous monitoring of interlayer temperatures throughout the printing process. Through advanced thermal imaging technology, the system captures precise data from the interlayer temperature, offering manufacturers actionable insights into heat distribution, material behavior and process stability. Notable for composites fabricators, it can also measure the temperature of any type of material up to 280°C with any type of fiber reinforcement.

The system integrates seamlessly with existing 3D printing setups equipped with PLC-controlled installations, using a thermal camera to track XYZ nozzle positions in real time. It is created specifically for the Robotic Arm 3D printer. Maintenance is minimal, requiring only regular calibration checks to ensure accuracy.
