CANZ 2023 Conference highlights composites sustainability in New Zealand

Returning to Auckland, New Zealand, the two-day event Oct. 12-13 will engage attendees with insightful presentations, innovative ideas, collaborative discussions and a workshop focused on sustainability and improving manufacturing capability.

The Composites Association of New Zealand (CANZ) 2023 Conference is taking place Oct. 12-13, 2023, at the Waipuna Hotel and Conference Centre in Auckland, New Zealand. This year’s theme, “Making a Difference,” focuses on CANZ’s commitment to sustainability in composites manufacturing in New Zealand. Insightful presentations, innovative ideas, collaborative discussions and a workshop on leveraging the composites network for circularity will be available to those who attend.

CANZ presents the following agenda highlights:

  • Styrene exposure control project: Learn about CANZ’s efforts to minimize workplace exposure hazards, with Dr. Samuel Keer presenting the Styrene Exposure Minimization Production model developed in collaboration with Massey University (Palmerston North, New Zealand)
  • Innovation in marine engineering: Explore the development of AC 40 Class boats and hydrogen-powered chase boats, as well as the achievement of new wind-powered land speed records by Emirates Team New Zealand.
  • Space manufacturing capability: Discover the growing space manufacturing capability in New Zealand through industry visits organized by the Advanced Technology and Aerospace group. Understand the importance of sustainable manufacturing and responsible use of space domain in New Zealand’s growth.
  • Research and collaboration: Engage in discussions with representatives from leading national and international universities, emphasizing the need for advanced manufacturing research. Participate in research group discussions, offering a platform for industry professionals to explore innovative ideas.
  • Trade exhibition: Visit the conference’s trade exhibition featuring leading industry suppliers. Attend new product familiarization sessions and seize the opportunity to test cutting-edge products shaping the future of composites manufacturing.

The CANZ 2023 Conference also enables attendees to learn more about some of CANZ’s special initiatives. This includes the launch of CANZ’s industry waste mapping plan, a collaborative effort with the University of Auckland and Plastics New Zealand, aimed at shaping a sustainable future for composites manufacturing. Moreover, available interactive sessions are focused on building the capabilities of CANZ members.
