TeXtreme | Oxeon AB Wide Spread Tow UD Tapes achieve thinner laminates, direct integration
JEC World 2026: Learn more about the company’s UD tape technology that produces thinner laminates, achieves enhanced mechanical performance and simplifies UD production using existing infrastructure.
TeXtreme | Oxeon AB (Borås, Sweden) announces the launch of its Wide Spread Tow UD Tape, a unidirectional (UD) solution that combines ultra-thin construction with highly uniform fiber distribution across the width. The result is improved mechanical performance compared to standard UD solutions, alongside significantly higher manufacturing efficiency than when using conventional 20-mm-wide tapes. The product is available in weights from 25 gsm, using HS, IM, HM and UHM carbon fiber types, in widths of 300 and 500 mm.
Engineered to address performance and production challenges, TeXtreme Wide Spread Tow UD Tape is designed to support multiple manufacturing routes and product builds. For prepreg producers without dedicated UD creel capacity, the wide dry UD format can be processed directly through existing fabric impregnation lines, eliminating the need for complex UD setups while reducing operational complexity. The tapes can also be supplied as dry reinforcement for direct use in customers’ liquid manufacturing processes.
“Manufacturers can use their existing impregnation infrastructure to produce thin, high-performance UD more efficiently and cost-effectively,” says Fredrik Ohlsson, product development director, Oxeon AB.
The tape format leverages TeXtreme’s Spread Tow technology to achieve straight fibers both in-plane and out-of-plane, enabling optimized load transfer and reinforcement usage. The ultra-uniform fiber alignment contributes to enhanced mechanical properties while also enabling thinner UD constructions than conventional UD lines.
Wide Spread Tow UD Tapes can also be functionalized with integrated veils and/or various binders, tailoring reinforcement. This flexibility supports use across demanding sectors such as aerospace, automotive and advanced industrial composites.
