CAMX 2022 exhibit preview: Plataine
Digital thread solution delivers a holistic view of the process chain from raw material to end product in a fully automated, paperless process.
Plataine (Waltham, Mass., U.S.) highlights its AI-based and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) manufacturing optimization solution, which is said to maintain full traceability of the digital thread, documenting every step in the process chain, from raw material to end product. This enables improved capabilities for quality control and audit readiness at all times.
The digital thread delivers a holistic view of an asset or material across its entire lifecycle. According to Plataine, its newest capabilities use cloud-based technology that enables manufacturers to log the complete genealogy of a product, stretching across multiple sites and organizations. This creates a comprehensive view available to anyone who has been provided with the credentials to access the information.
Current supply chain challenges such as soaring raw material and transportation costs, and acute shortages of labor and components present unprecedented challenges to any manufacturer, Plataine says. Raw material manufacturers can now make a “Digital ID” available for each material they produce, so that all relevant stakeholders in the supply chain are able to access any approved information, including material properties, material history, shelf life, defects and fault details. Part or assembly manufacturers are also able to automate and accelerate recall scenarios, reducing scrap and improving first-time quality. Full traceability also means that production floors in highly regulated industries, such as aerospace, are always audit-ready.
Additional features include:
- Creation of the asset’s full genealogy by correlating material to parts to assets and specifying their relationships creating the digital twin.
- Automatic recalculation of parts’ shelf-life based on properties inherited from related parts.
- Proactively minimizes product recalls with IIoT technologies and shop-floor sensors that collect production and quality data in real-time.
- Increases manufacturing yield with smart AI-based automation software.
- Ensures full compliance with regulations and audit processes.
Ultimately, Plataine’s technology delivers automation wherever possible, from material receiving, through movement and consumption for paperless production. One particular benefit is automated tracking of time-sensitive raw material, ensuring exposure time limits are not exceeded. All this removes potential for human error, leading to reduced material waste, better inventory planning, reduced rework and scrap.
