Xenia Materials’ (Vicenza, Italy) Xecarb carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites have been successfully introduced into a new application, Bft SpA’s (Schio, Italy) ELI AC/BT A range of in-ground non-reversible electromechanical motors for swing gates. Bft produces automation systems for residential, commercial and urban spaces.

In particular, Xenia says the durability, reliability and the silent operation of the AC A 40 and BT A 40 ELI models have been enhanced thanks to Xecarb, which has replaced the application’s previously used POM material. Developed in Xecarb 17 thermoplastic composite, the motors have double the durability, with an impact strength value of 120 MPa and an elongation at break of 5.2%. Overall, Xecarb enables high performance in heavier automation systems, guaranteeing a longer lifespan.

Originally engineered for application in the sports and aerospace markets, Xecarb 17 thermoplastic composites, developed on PEBA, are also applicable to several applications in industrial sectors, Xenia notes, due to their intrinsic mechanical properties maintained at low temperatures.
