Wells Advanced Materials introduces Towpremax for advanced filament winding
High-performance prepreg tow enables efficient dry filament winding in pressure vessels like hydrogen storage cylinders, ensuring quality and productivity.
Wells Advanced Materials (WAM, Shanghai, China) introduces Towpremax, a premium high-performance prepreg tow engineered to deliver optimal quality, efficiency and reliability in dry filament winding applications. Manufactured using high-strength carbon fiber and the company’s advanced epoxy resin systems, Towpremax is available in three grades with glass transition temperatures of 125°C, 180°C and 200°C, making it ideally suited for demanding industrial pressure vessel applications, including Type 3 and Type 4 hydrogen storage cylinders.
Produced via a 100% hot-melt, solvent-free process, Towpremax ensures consistent resin distribution, optimal viscosity and improved unwinding behavior. Its uniform and customizable tow width enables high-speed, clean and stable dry filament winding, helping manufacturers maximize productivity while maintaining high mechanical performance.
The product was first exhibited at JEC 2025 and made its domestic debut at SAMPE China 2025, followed by a successful technical exchange event in Shanghai hosted by WAM and its subsidiary TEF. Live demonstrations — including a dry-wound Type 3 pressure vessel — highlighted the industrial readiness and scalability of Towpremax and reinforced WAM’s commitment to advancing efficient, precise and sustainable composites manufacturing.
