Trelleborg’s (Randolph, Mass., U.S.) applied technologies operation launches its new lightweight, fire-resistant material as part of its ongoing agreement with CFP Composites (Solihull, U.K.) to make Soteria FR1500 available in Europe. Trelleborg says the material adds to its existing range of solutions for vehicle manufacturing, giving customers a lightweight, protective material suitable for electric vehicle (EV) battery boxes and enclosures, or as an alternative to aluminum for automotive and aerospace sandwich paneling.

Offering a density of 1.28 g/cm3, Trelleborg’s Soteria FR1500 material is flame-resistant to +1500ºC for up to seven hours, and has a cryogenic performance rated to -192ºC. Sheets can be bonded or mechanically fastened to cover larger surface areas and machined to a specific shape using traditional cutting tools. Further, Soteria FR1500 is said to be easy to transport and install, making it suitable for both new and upgraded applications.
