Recycled composite material lines target circular economy
CAMX 2023: Through its proprietary recycling process, Fairmat exhibits Fairmat Quest and Fairmat Infinity, advanced material products that are sustainable, high-performing, lightweight and ideal for aesthetic purposes.
Founded in 2020 by Ben Saada, Fairmat (Paris, France) is a deep-tech company aiming to revolutionize the recycling of carbon fiber-based composites. Fairmat’s recycling process uses high-tech proprietary cutting technologies that incorporate robotics and machine learning, creating a more sustainable future for composites and long-term industrialization. In contrast to traditional waste-management techniques using pyrolysis or solvolysis, known for their high energy consumption, or grinding composites waste, Fairmat’s process relies on mechanical treatment.
With 3.8 kg of CO2e per kilo of material recycled (as cited in Fairmat’s Simplified LCA conducted in June 2022 by Greenflex), Fairmat Quest, the company’s affordable baseline product, is reported to be one of the most performing and sustainable materials available for the circular economy. Fairmat Quest and Fairmat Infinity, sustainable carbon fiber products achieved via the company’s recycling process, are:
- Sustainable, emitting less CO2 than the materials it replaces.
- High-performing, exceeding the required physical and mechanical properties found in commonly used wood, plastic and metal materials.
- Lightweight, offering reduced weight for equivalent stiffness.
- Highly aesthetic, as these material surfaces can be painted and are available in a choice of three finishes.
These material lines are suitable for a variety of industries such as sporting goods, consumer electronics, automotive and smart city solutions.
