Kraibon from Gummiwerk Kraiburg GmbH & Co. KG (Waldkraiburg, Germany) comprises a thin film made of non-vulcanized elastomers that is able to chemically bonds to different materials— such as composites — and can be integrated directly into the layer structure during the manufacturing process. The advantage of Kraibon elastomers include improved acoustic properties, splinter protection, energy absorption and the constructive combination of various material classes. According to the company, when integrated, no additional bonding agents are required. Kraibon has inherent adhesiveness and, after warming, can easily be draped.
Kraiburg Leading Edge Protection (LEP) is an elastomer foil for protection against erosion damage to the leading edges of wind turbine rotor blades. It is said to be applicable for onshore and offshore wind power generation. The first wind turbine rotor blades employing Kraiburg LEP were reportedly installed in 2015. Since then, the company says more than 3,000 rotor blades, onshore and offshore, have been equipped with Kraiburg LEP without any need for repair.
