Moving Structural Composites into a New Era of Manufacturing

October 04, 2022 |

Hybrid additive manufacturing and post-print process advances are increasing the already high design freedom and performance achievable to produce structural carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composite parts.

Hybrid additive manufacturing (AM) and post-print process advances are increasing the already high design freedom and performance achievable with a novel AM/compression molding process—itself a hybrid—to produce structural carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP) composite parts. Produced parts are cost competitive, allow for complex geometries and with higher flexibility to accommodate with low- to high-production volumes—becoming a competitive alternative to applications dominated by metals.

Agenda:

  • Manufacturing of structural composites through AM
  • Digital workflow (design, simulation for application, simulation for manufacturing)
  • Hybrid AM manufacturing: how to combine AM for ultimate performance with other complementary low-cost feedstock materials by leveraging high speed processes such as injection molding and overmolding

Presenter 1:

Yannick Willemin

Head of Marketing and Business Development

Yannick is into innovation and technology topics with deep experience in the composite and advanced materials field. He has both an engineering degree in mechanics and an MBA in entrepreneurship. During his 13 years at SGL Carbon, he acquired both composites and managerial competencies through his roles in R&D, sales, procurement and innovation strategy. In January 2020, he joined 9T Labs as the head of marketing and business development.

Martin Eichenhofer

CEO and Co-Founder

Martin Eichenhofer is the cofounder and CEO of 9T Labs. He has an impressive academic background with one each of a bachelor's degree, master's degree, MBA and Ph.D. under his belt. His university path is actually deeply tied to his entrepreneurial career—since his idea for 9T Labs occurred to him during his master's studies, his MBA was motivated by his desire to build 9T Labs and he got his Ph.D. after realizing he didn't have enough of a scientific foundation for it yet. Martin also met both of his cofounders, Giovanni Cavolina and Chester Houwink, during his Ph.D. studies.
