Carbitex (Kennewick, Wash., U.S.), a company that makes flexible carbon fiber/thermoplastic composites for high-performance footwear, has announced that its dynamically flexible DFX carbon fiber plates are a key technology in the new Speedland SL:PDX trail shoe launched the week of June 22, 2021. Carbitex reports that its technology is fast-growing in the performance footwear industry, and is currently featured among brands like adidas, Scott, DC, Radar/Ronix, Lake Cycling, with more being introduced this year.

According to Carbitex, with carbon fiber more commonly found in road running shoes, the Speedland SL:PDX is one of the first purpose-built trail models to introduce Carbitex DFX material for dynamically flexible performance, while also providing stability and agility, all of which is said to not be found with traditional carbon fiber plates.

The foam midsole is made with Speedland’s PEBAX high-performance polymer, located directly on top of the Carbitex carbon fiber plate. Notably, says the company, the SL:PDX is also designed with the ability to dismantle the shoe and replace worn out parts like treaded soles, while re-using the Carbitex insert.
