In April 2022, Neuvokas Corp. (Ahmeek, Mich., U.S.), a composite rebar manufacturer, received approval from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) as an approved product. Additional certifications have been earned in the past month, including approval from Washington County, MD Department of Transportation and an approved evaluation status from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT); for the latter, the GatorBar product has also has been placed on VDOT’s New Products Evaluation List (NPEL) effective June 2, 2022. GatorBar’s corresponding VDOT Product Number is 2022-4.
When asked about its approval by TxDOT, Matt Kero, Neuvoka vice president of engineering, says, “We began working with them [TxDOT] over five years ago so this approval is a significant achievement. TxDOT maintains a diligent process of material, performance and property testing that ensures code enforcement, engineering staff and project owners receive a product that meets the highest industry standards.”
GatorBar Glass is a U.S.-made glass fiber-reinforced composite rebar (GFRP) offering what Neuvokas says is two to four times the tensile strength of steel and four to seven times lighter weight. Moreover, GatorBar Glass is said not to rust and is an economical rebar product.
