Thermoplastics to be a focus of Carbon Fiber 2013 conference

CompositesWorld, publisher of High-Performance Composites and Composites Technology magazines, as well as the CompositesWorld Weekly newsletter, reports that it has begun preparations for the Carbon Fiber 2013 conference, Dec. 9-12 at the Crowne Plaza Knoxville in Knoxville, Tenn., USA, near the Oak Ridge National Labs.

Among the speakers will be Dr. Angelos Miaris of Premium AEROTEC GmbH (Bremen, Germnay), who will present a paper titled, "Producing Thermoplastic Matrix Composites for Aeronautical Applications Under Industrial Scale Conditions." He will cover the advantages of high-performance thermoplastic matrixes, utilization of the thermoplastic matrix composites in the Airbus family, thermoplastic clips for the A350 XWB, the challenges of industrial-scale production and the breakthrough and the development of a highly automated process, and the technical challenges and perspectives of thermoplastic parts in future airframes.

Also featured will be John M. Carson, executive director of AltusGroup Inc. (Greenville, S.C., USA). He will discuss use of carbon fiber in precase concrete applications, the CarbonCast Precase technology, high-performance insulated panels and the future of carbon fiber composites in concrete grid technology.
