Jiangsu Hangke Composite Materials Technology makes breakthrough in T1000 carbon fiber
Chinese company claims materials testing shows performance equal to similar products from Toray.
As reported by Innovation in Textiles, Jiangsu Hangke Composite Materials Technology (JSHK, Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, China) has successfully tested its new T1000 carbon fiber and claims the product performance to be equal to similar products by Toray Industries (Tokyo, Japan). The company claims this as another milestone after it built the first Chinese domestic production line in 2012 for mass production of T800 carbon fiber.
Current capacity of the JSHK T1000 pilot production line is 50 tons/year. The pilot product has been tested by third party testing centers, including Beihang University (BUAA) high performance carbon fibre testing and analysis center, and Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) Institute of carbon fiber and composites.
According to the JSHK, these test results show that the tensile strength, tensile modulus, and elongation linear density, as well as thermal conductivity and other parameters, are equal to that of Toray T1000 products.
Product stability has reportedly been a problem in the Chinese domestic carbon fiber industry for many years. These recent results, however, show good stability for T1000 products, with JSHK claiming a variation coefficient (CV value) at the same level as Toray products.
JSHK also produces the precursor for its carbon fiber production. The T1000 and the T800 are different products made on the same production line with the same modulus, through technology upgrading. T1000 has higher strength and so can reportedly be used in special industry applications. However, demand is still high for T800 products, thus JSHK expects to evolve T1000 production when there is an adequate response from the market.
The company claims it has applied for 85 patents regarding the carbon fiber development, 24 of which have been authorized so far. In addition, JSHK has developed 20 equipment manufacturing standards, 40 production process standards and 68 tracking test specifications. It says all of these have laid a good technical R&D and industrialization base for its carbon fiber production in China.
