Supply and demand: Advanced fibers (2017)
Demand for advanced fiber, virgin and reclaimed, is on an upswing after a dip during the recent recession. Fiber suppliers are gearing up to meet an expected increase in demand as manufacturers in a number of composites end-markets scale up or start up part development and production programs

Supply and demand: Advanced fibers (2015)
Demand for advanced fiber, virgin and reclaimed, is on an upswing after a dip during the recent recession. Fiber suppliers are gearing up to meet an expected increase in demand as manufacturers in a number of composites end-markets scale up or start up part development and production programs.

The markets: Automotive (2014)
A revitalized auto industry emerged from the Great Recession in 2012 leaner and, in terms of health-related concerns, cleaner, too, but faced a one-two punch in terms of fuel economy and carbon-dioxide (CO2) emission standards that put intense focus on vehicle lightweighting.

Market Outlook: Surplus in carbon fiber's future?
Participants at CW’s Carbon Fiber 2012 Conference see one coming as early as 2016.

SGL completes acquisition of Fisipe
SGL now owns 100 percent of Fisipe shares, and adds to its carbon fiber precursor capability.

Carbon fiber update: Fiber sources gear up for expected increase in demand
Currently, the market for carbon fiber composites is estimated at $10 billion (USD) globally, and observers expect that it could reach as high as $40 billion by 2022.

SGL Group increases stake in Fisipe
Carbon fiber manufacturer SGL Group has increased its stake in precursor manufacturer Fisipe (Portugal) to 97 percent; SGL will soon begin to expand its production of the supply of raw materials for carbon fiber manufacturing.

SGL Group closes on Fisipe acquisition
Portugal-based Fisipe, manufacturer of acrylic and other textiles, will begin manufacturing polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor for SGL Group to make low-tow carbon fibers.

SGL Group expands European precursor base
Carbon fiber manufacturer SGL Group has acquired an 86 percent stake in Portuguese carbon fiber precursor manufacturer Fisipe — Fibras Sintéti- cas de Portugal S.A. The company manufactures polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor, which SGL expects to use to make small-tow carbon fiber.

Harper Int’l supplies oxidation systems for CF research
Harper has installed a full pilot scale carbon fiber process line for FISIPE S.A. in Lavradio, Portugal, and a university scale carbon fiber thermal processing system at Georgia Institute of Technology in the U.S.
