Imhotep Ltd.’s (New Ollerton, U.K.) new stock and made-to-order AtenPly unidirectional thermoplastic prepreg tapes come in a range of com-positions, widths, colors and fiber volume fractions. Made direct from fiber roving and thermoplastic melt using a proprietary process, the lightweight, unidirectional tapes reportedly exhibit high strength and a degree of impregnation that permits their use in low-pressure molding processes. The tapes can combine continuous carbon, glass and/or aramid fibers with either commodity plastics (e.g., polypropylene, polyethylene), engineering plastics (e.g., PET, polyamide) or high-performance polymers (e.g., PEEK, PPS), thermoplastic elastomers, biodegradable plastics, such as polycaprolactone, as well as additives (colorants, coupling agents) to improve aesthetic or mechanical performance.
