EOS GmbH (Novi, Mich., Krailling, Germany) has introduced two new commercial materials for rapid prototyping and manufacturing. The new plastic, PrimePart DC, is an impact-resistant polyamide with a tensile strength of 48 MPa. It reportedly has an outstanding elongation at break of 50 percent, about twice as high as those of previously available materials. It's said to be suitable for automotive components, such as interior parts, and also for aerospace applications. For direct metal laser sintering (DMLS), StainlessSteel PH1 offers high hardness, good corrosion resistance and strong mechanical properties, reportedly matching the traits of stainless steels currently in use in the medical and aerospace industries. It is designed to complement EOS' existing 17-4 EOS StainlessSteel GP1.
