Optimet Inc.'s (Wilmington, Mass., U.S.A.) ConoProbe noncontact, single-point measuring sensor (based on conoscopic holography) now has a new electro-optical shutter. Integrated within the sensor, the shutter allows measurements to be taken while laser drilling, cutting and welding is in process. Measurements of distances or shapes are taken in between laser pulses, through the same lens used to focus a laser. The shutter, controlled by a Laser Synchronization Unit, is opened and closed in accord with the arrival of a laser pulse.
