RAMPF Group Inc. (Wixom, Mich., U.S., 5/P24) is highlighting two epoxy systems for composite manufacturing. RAKU EI-2508 is a low-viscosity, low-temperature processing, fast-curing FST system designed for aircraft interiors, rail interiors and other applications where flame-retardant properties are required. RAKU EI-2510 is a high-temperature, toughened epoxy system with excellent hot-wet properties (dry Tg 210°C, wet Tg 174°C), high fracture toughness and suitable for a range of structural applications in high-temperature environments. RAMPF says this low-temperature processing 2K system requires less investment in tooling and infrastructure and no special storage.
Also featured, from RAMPF Tooling Solutions, is RAKU TOOL WB-0890 epoxy board, specially developed for the composite industry. The board, says RAMPF, has an extremely fine surface structure, which is said to significantly reduce finishing and the amount of sealer required. Further, the surface finish reportedly can be transferred from the master model to the prepreg mold, so that no resanding of the mold is required and the service life of the prepreg mold is significantly increased. RAKU TOOL WB-0890 is compatible with all industry-standard paints, release agents and epoxy prepregs. Tg is 110°C.
New out-of-autoclave process combines resin transfer molding with prepregs for complex helicopter part prototype.
Biomimicry evolves into a systematic design process for optimizing efficient, lightweight structures.
New products from mold release manufacturers emphasize ease of use and application flexibility.
