IACMI Scale-Up Research Facility to host Compression Molding Workshop
Workshop aims to enable OEMs and fabricators seeking to expand composites penetration in automotive and other end markets.
The Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation’s (IACMI, Knoxville, TN, US) and CompositesWorld will host a Compression Molding Workshop on January 17, 2019. The limited seating workshop will take place at IACMI’s Scale-Up Research Facility (SURF, Detroit, MI, US) and offers OEMs and composites fabricators an opportunity to learn about two existing technologies:
- Compression Molding – a method of molding in which the molding material, generally preheated, is first placed in an open, heated mold cavity.
- High-pressure resin transfer molding – a method in which very low-viscosity, reactive resin is injected into the cavity at high pressure ensuring that each individual fiber is wetted and that there are no air voids.
The workshop aims to enable OEMs and fabricators seeking to expand composites penetration in automotive and other end markets.
Registration includes a one day free pass for the industry preview at the North American International Auto Show to be used either Jan. 16 or 17.
