Delcam (Birmingham, U.K.) has launched two new components as part of its PowerSHAPE CAD software. The latest version of PowerSHAPE now incorporates Parasolid 3-D geometric modeling software, the addition of which marks what Delcam says is the most significant development in the company’s design software since its introduction 10 years ago. The integration of Parasolid, from Siemens PLM Software, is intended to reinforce PowerSHAPE’s solid modeling capabilities. Features include easy conversion of existing PowerSHAPE solid models to Parasolid solid models, rapid creation of Parasolid solid models from PowerSHAPE surfaces and surfaces imported from other design systems, import and export of Parasolid models in XT file format without translation, and complex and high-speed model editing to optimize models for manufacture. Also new to PowerSHAPE, as well as Delcam’s CopyCAD Pro reverse engineering program, is Solid Doctor, for the repair of CAD models. This, combined with the Parasolid module, allows the Solid Doctor to read in and repair models from all sources, including IGES and native CATIA files, and output a Parasolid XT file that can be read directly into all software based on Parasolid, including IronCAD, SolidWorks, TopSolid, T-Flex and VisiCAD, as well as Siemens PLM Software’s own Solid Edge software and NX software products.
