Noran Engineering Inc. (Westminster, Calif., U.S.A.) has launched Version 8.3 of its NE/Nastran Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software. Part of the company's complete collection of analysis software, Version 8.3 offers new advanced dynamic solutions, a more robust shell element, a new spot-weld element and a faster Lanczos Eigensolver as well as model input load and boundary condition interpolation and over 50 other enhancements developed in collaboration with customers. Notable new features include model interpretation, to allow mapping of data from one simulation mesh to another. This technique can be used for 2-D or 3-D models with scalar or vector data, such as temperatures from heat transfer model or pressures from a CFD model mapped to a structural model. No alignment is required between the input data to be interpolated and the target mesh. The software also features an aircraft specific tool, Tension-only Quad Elements, which is expected to enhance productivity in airframe, wing and fuselage analysis.
