Dow Epoxy (Midland, Mich.) has introduced FORTEGRA epoxy tougheners, low-viscosity materials for use in amine-, dicyandiamide- (DICY), anhydride- and phenolic-cured epoxy systems. Said to be effective at levels as low as 3 percent to 10 percent by volume, the tougheners can be integrated into resin systems at lower ratios than similarly priced alternatives and are available in four formulations: FORTEGRA 100 is the Dow proprietary epoxy toughening agent; FORTEGRA 383-50 and FORTEGRA 383-5 are blends of D.E.R. 383 liquid epoxy resin with toughening material integrated, respectively, at 50 percent and 5 percent (by weight), permitting the user to create blends of the two to achieve desired toughening levels. FORTEGRA 664-12 is a 12 percent blend of the toughening material in D.E.R. 664 resin, used mainly in powder coatings.
