Gabriel Performance Products (Rock Hill, South Carolina), historically know as a specialty chemical manufacturer, is now marketing itself as a supplier of epoxy additives. Gabriel has acquired the phenoxy resin business from Inchem Corp. and the liquid epoxy curative line, marketed under the VERSAMID brand, from BASF.  These product lines are natural extensions to Gabriel’s rapid-cure polymeric mercaptan products offered under the CAPCURE and GABEPRO brands. Gabriel also has commercialized all of its liquid epoxy curative products, expanded its sales/marketing/technical teams, opened an applications laboratory and launched a new website

  • Taking the hand out of hand layup

Hand layup has a long history in aerospace composites fabrication, but it's not well suited for automotive composites manufacturing, where volumes are much higher. But the discrete placement of fiber reinforcements still has value. Research is pointing toward automated hand layup that might help this process bridge the aerospace-to-automotive divide.

ATL and AFP-based preforming options now abound for processing dry and/or impregnated reinforcements as quickly as 1 minute or less with potential yearly part yields in the millions.
