Mikrosam’s (Prilep, Macedonia) 7-axis, gantry-style automated fiber placement (AFP) system features three linear and three rotary axes for the head and a rotational axis for the tool. The maximum tool dimensions are 1.4m long by 2m wide by 1m high (4.6 by 6.6 by 3.3 ft). The head will layup eight prepreg tows at 3.2 mm/0.13 inch width, individually controlled for cut/restart. Targeted, in part, to R&D institutions and labs, the system features MikroPlace v1.0 software for automated layup and AFP process simulation. Compatible with CATIA, SolidWorks, Pro/Engineer and IGES, the software has custom ply-definition capability and can identify problematic courses and estimate total production cost and time. Post-processing and simulation tools include the ability to generate, view and modify a complete machine path, and generate ISO G-Code for a specific AFP machine.
