Overall purpose: The ACC was formed in 1988 to conduct joint research programs on structural polymer composites in precompetitive areas that leverage existing resources and enhance competitiveness. ACC goals are to establish an automotive database of comparable data on polymer composite materials for use in structural analysis as well as to develop and demonstrate (1) processing technology capable of producing reliable structural composite parts in high volume at a competitive cost, (2) design technology that applies production-feasible composites in energy-management applications, and (3) continuing ACC technology in materials, processing and design of structural automotive applications.
