Tecniplas (Cabreúva, SP, Brazil), a Brazilian manufacturer of composite tanks and special equipment, has announced the manufacture of a composite scrubber for the treatment of biogas. Produced for Greenlane Biogas (Burnaby, BC, Canada), the equipment will be installed in a landfill located in São Paulo, Brazil, and will be part of an energy generation station.

With a diameter of 1.8 m, a height of 13.8 m and a total capacity of 35,000 m³, the scrubber manufactured by Tecniplas is the first made of composites to be acquired by Greenlane worldwide. In the past, Greenlane has specified only high-quality metallic alloys, such as 316L stainless steel, for this type of application.

“We verified both the full suitability of the material for the application and the extensive experience of our engineering department in the development of complex solutions involving composites. This way, the customer did not have to import the equipment, which directly influenced the cost of the project,” says Luís Gustavo Rossi, director of Tecniplas.

The scrubber will have the function of removing the impurities from biogas, which is comprised mainly of methane from the decomposition of the waste. Once processed, the gas becomes usable for combustion and environmentally friendly power generation.
