PEP to be demonstrator site for RocTool injection molding variant

RocTool's high-speed mold heating and cooling technology, called the Cage System, will be installed at the Pôle Européen de Plasturgie R&D center to allow potential customers to trial the technology on injection molding machines.

RocTool (Le Bourget du Lac, France) and Pôle Européen de Plasturgie (PEP, Oyonnax, France) have signed an exclusive five-year R&D agreement regarding a variant of RocTool's patented Cage System, designed for thermoplastic injection molding. Originally designed for composites processing, the Cage System is capable of very quickly heating and cooling the surface, and only the surface, of a mold.

The agreement calls for the installation of the Cage System at a trial platform in PEP's facility in Oyonnax, France. "At PEP, our clients will have access to demonstrations and trials at an inferior cost compared to the investment that would have been normally necessary," said Alexandre Guichard, RocTool’s CEO.
The pilot will be operational from October 2008.  RocTool will finance the tools for the demonstration, while PEP will pay for the peripheral equipment and installation of the pilot.

PEP's R&D center performs studies and simulations and provides part design assistance. PEP's trial center has nine injection molding machines ranging in clamp tonnage from from 15 to 2,200 tonnes. Alexis Bricout, managing director of PEP, said, "The arrival of RocTool’s technology Cage System in the injection field is a revolution which has not been seen in plastics processing for many years.  It will allow the plastic injection industry to conquer new applications. This is precisely what the French plastics industry needs to keep ahead in this competitive worldwide industry.

PEP will host a demonstration of the technology Oct. 28-29. More than 400 companies are expected to participate.
