NIAR-MSC software agreement will increase usability of composites material property data

Digimat-MX software integrates NCAMP data for progressive failure models in unidirectional and woven composites.

Material property data developed by the National Center for Advanced Materials Performance (NCAMP) at Wichita State University's National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR, Wichita, KS, US) is now available in a more user-friendly format thanks to a new agreement with e-Xstream engineering SA (Newport Beach, CA, US), an MSC Software (Newport Beach, CA, US).

The agreement allows MSC Software to include publicly-available NCAMP data in its Digimat software, a leading material and structural modeling platform. The latest version, Digimat-MX, integrates NCAMP data as ready-to-run progressive failure models for unidirectional and woven composite, for various conditions. Digimat users can directly perform predictive structural analysis with the reference NIAR grades for stiffness, as well as for progressive failure.

“Over the last two years, we've been partnering with NIAR to develop, verify and validate the Digimat Virtual Allowable platform, said Roger Assaker, CEO of e-Xstream engineering and chief material strategist of MSC Software. “Today, we are pleased to release Digimat material models of the composites available in the NCAMP database. I'm sure that these models will be of great use for our composites customers across the aerospace industry."

NCAMP works with the FAA and industry partners to qualify material systems and populate a shared materials database that can be viewed publicly. NCAMP started as a FAA-funded program within NIAR and stemmed from NASA's 1995 Advanced General Aviation Transport Experiment (AGATE).
