Norplex-Micarta (Postville, Iowa, USA), a manufacturer of high-performance thermoset composites, has announced the appointment of Richard Chen to project manager at the company’s Postville headquarters. Chen’s responsibilities will include installing and reviewing the safety requirements of new equipment, identifying and implementing process improvements, and managing the day-to-day operational aspects of a project and its scope. Prior to his appointment, Chen served as vice president of operations at MDJ Development LLC.

Renegade Materials Corp. (Springboro, Ohio) has named Kory Abbitt as director of business development. Abbitt has more than 25 years of experience in the composites industry including engineering, business development and sales management assignments at GE Aviation, Fiberite, Cytec, A&P Technology, Hexcel and Park Electrochemical. Abbitt's experience with the aerospace customer base and qualifying products to key programs will be a great addition to the Renegade Team, where her activities will be focused on mismaleimide, cyanate ester, toughened epoxy and high-temp polyimide composite materials.

Royal Engineered Composites (Minden, Neb., USA) reports that it will cut the ribbon on its new expansion on Dec. 6 at 3:00 pm at its Minden facility. Tours of the manufacturing plant are available after the ceremony. The expansion of more than 30,000 ft2/2,787m2 will allow Royal the extra capacity it needs to take on larger contracts and make larger parts and assemblies. The expansion includes a 12,000-ft2/1,115m2 cleanroom along with additional manufacturing space. Royal also purchased manufacturing equipment, such as another ply cutting table and a composites machining center, which will be delivered in 2012. Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman will be keynote speaker at the event.
