On Feb. 16, composites company M1 Composites Technology Inc. (Quebec, Canada) announced that it has become the second company to reach MACH 5, as well as become the first independent Canadian SME. Transiting within the AeroMontreal MACH Initiative from MACH 2 to its current level in the span of less than 8 years, the company directs its achievement toward the airliner Air Canada’s mentorship — and even more specifically, Calin Rovinescu’s vision and leadership, along with Richard Steer, Michael Rousseau and Air Canada’s management team.

The AeroMontreal MACH Initiative is an aerospace supplier development program, which aims to foster collaboration and innovation, within the supply chain, and improve the performance and competitiveness of suppliers. With five active cohorts and more than $11.4 million invested in projects, the program follows a 12-14-month structured development process as well as the MACH Excellence Framework, a common methodological approach that was developed to improve the mastery of key business processes at suppliers, in order to achieve excellence in terms of leadership, operational excellence, excellence in workforce planning and development. While a MACH 1 rating signifies “understanding excellence,” MACH 5 — M1 Composites’ current rating — signifies “imposing excellence,” and is the top level in the program.

Further, reaching MACH 5 level means benefits for M1 Composites customers. This achievement reportedly demonstrates M1's ability to quickly develop new capabilities, maintain high quality standards, improved processes and fast turnaround times.

“It's an accomplishment that makes me proud of my team. Congratulations to the whole team for their hard work and dedication. It is a great success to start the new year. Having the flexibility to quickly become a strategic supplier, while maintaining international standards of quality, continuous improvement and service is the key to our success. MACH 5 solidifies our base for continued growth,” says Lorenzo Marandola, president, M1 Composites.
