JEC World 2018 preview: CHOMARAT

CHOMARAT unveils its new multiaxial NCF reinforcement for thermoplastics, plus an innovative UD carbon reinforcement for wind blades

CHOMARAT is launching its G-PLY multiaxial glass fiber NCF for thermoplastic composites, which uses a unique patented stitching yarn which can withstand processing temperatures to 400°C.  G-PLY offers new possibilities in thermoplastic resin transfer molding (RTM) and organosheet processes, targeting lightweight, shorter cycle time and lower cost for automotive composite structures.

Carbon UD for extra-thick wind turbine structures
For the first time, CHOMARAT is exhibiting an resin-infused laminate made with 150 plies of its new unidirectional carbon C-PLY reinforcement. This 600g/m², high-permeability NCF can be used to create extra-thick structures, specifically the blade stiffeners, or spar caps, for wind blades. “Cost reduction is the challenge in the wind energy industry. Increasing the blade length by incorporating carbon stiffeners increases power, and so it also lowers the cost of the energy,” says CHOMARAT Wind Energy Market Manager Raphaël Pleynet. The carbon UD developed by CHOMARAT features a high permeability to reduce cycle times and lowers the blade production costs.

Professor Sung Ha from the University of Hanyang will give a conference on composite challenges in the wind energy sector at 11:30 am on Wednesday, March 7 at JEC World 2018 (Mar 6-8, Paris, France). Visit CHOMARAT at JEC World 2018 in Hall 5A, Stand J42.
