DSM, BÜFA announce strategic alliance

The alliance creates two agreements: The first will focus on gelcoats, pastes and fire retardants; the second will create a Pan European distributor focused on the composites industry.

DSM Composite Resins AG (Schaffhausen, Switzerland) and BÜFA GmbH & Co. KG (Rastede, Germany) on Nov. 25 announced their intent to establish a strategic cooperation. This cooperation will be shaped into two joint venture agreements. One company will focus on combining their European businesses in gelcoats, bonding pastes, pigment pastes and fire retardants. The other will create a Pan European distributor focused on the composites industry by combining both companies' existing European distribution activities into one enterprise. Both joint ventures will be headquartered in Germany. The cooperation is expected to go into effect January 2009 subject to approval of the competent authorities.

“BÜFA is one of Europe’s biggest suppliers of resin specialities in the composite market” says Jürgen Aurer, managing director BÜFA Reaktionsharze [reactive resins] GmbH & Co. KG. “The heart of our activities is the modern production facility in Rastede, North Germany. The key competences of BÜFA and DSM are very complementary. Operating in a common business structure will allow us to offer an optimal portfolio of high quality gelcoats, fire retardant products, bonding pastes and pigment pastes to our customers.”

“Currently DSM Composite Resins owns Euroresins, the largest European composite distribution group” says Michael Effing, president DSM Composite Resins. “Our intention is to create a leading pan-European composite distributor together with BÜFA by combing DSM's and BÜFA's distribution activities under one umbrella. This combination will create a true pan European distributor dedicated to the composite industry which can offer a complete, first class product portfolio to its customers, backed by superb technical service.
