CompositesWorld, publisher of CompositesWorld magazine, the CW Today and CW EXTRA newsletters, as well as CompositesWorld.com, reports that it is launching CW Top Shops, a new benchmarking survey designed to help composites fabricators assess the effectiveness and efficiency of their manufacturing operations.

CW Top Shops is available to all composites fabricators globally and measures factors such as:

  • Facility type
  • Markets served by facility
  • Materials, processes and tooling types used
  • Inspection pass rate
  • On-time delivery performance
  • Operations uptime
  • Scrap rate
  • Quality parameters
  • Inspection methodologies
  • Materials management methodologies
  • Capital equipment spend rate
  • Customer retention rate
  • Employee turnover

Respondents who complete the CW Top Shops survey and provide an email address will receive a customized report that shows how his or her facility compares to others measured in the survey. Specific facility responses are otherwise only reported in aggregate. In addition, respondents can opt into the CW Top Shops Honors Program, designed to recognize the best-performing composites fabrication facilities.

“The composites manufacturing industry is relatively young, highly disparate and very dynamic,” says Jeff Sloan, editor-in-chief of CW. “It also lacks some of the performance data that is commonly found in more mature industries dominated by legacy materials. With CW Top Shops we hope to begin a sustained effort to change that — to give fabricators and OEMs a useful tool to help them assess the quality and efficiency of their operations.”

“The Top Shops program has been a valuable tool for many years in association with other titles from the publisher of CompositesWorld,” says Jan Schafer, director of Market Research for Gardner Intelligence, the research arm of CW. “We often hear that respondents rely on the custom benchmarking for input to their strategic planning processes. In addition, recognition as a Top Shop has led to significant new business for some facilities. We encourage composites fabrication facilities to take advantage of the same opportunities that will soon be available.”

Respondents can find the CW Top Shops survey at this link. Please complete the survey by April 30, 2019. Custom reports will be made available to respondents by mid-June.
