Composites Universal Group (CUG, Scappoose, Ore., USA) announced on Sept. 10 that it has landed the competitive contract award to build the 65-ft/19.8m main wind sail for the newest boat design from Harbor Wing Technologies (Brunswick, Maine, USA).

Steve Ruege, president of Composites Universal Group, said, “CUG has committed to an aggressive schedule to build the tools and main sail structure to help Harbor Wing Technologies begin ‘in-the-water’ tests early 2011. We think the unique design is a winner. Composites Universal Group intends to maintain a competitive posture with this technology and ride the wave as the market starts to fully understand the potential of the Harbor Wing concept. This initial Navy-funded contract is being watched on many fronts by other agencies, governments and companies who might benefit from a wind powered alternative for large scale ocean transportation and surveillance.”
