AXION receives $925,000 order for composite railroad ties

A major rail transit line located in the south central region of the U.S. has ordered $925,000 worth of AXION's ECOTRAX composite rail ties.

AXION International Holdings Inc. (New Providence, N.J., USA), a manufacturer of recycled plastic and plastic composite technologies used to produce ECOTRAX rail ties and STRUXURE building products, on Dec. 30 announced that a major domestic transit line located in the south central region of the U.S. has issued a purchase order for $925,000 of AXION's ECOTRAX composite rail ties made with 100 percent recycled plastic and plastic composites.

AXION says ECOTRAX composite rail ties were chosen by the existing customer to be used for an annual spot replacement of rotted wooden ties. The decision to continue the purchase and use of ECOTRAX reportedly was a result of proven durability, time efficiency, and lifecycle cost savings over traditional ties, particularly in the various climates of the south central region. The purchase order will be issued to support two install projects, with the second phase purchase order to be finalized by the first week of January.

"We continue to demonstrate that ECOTRAX delivers great value to our customers and the rail industry," ays Cory Burdick, AXION's ECOTRAX sales manager. "Rail operators are actively seeking alternatives to address the increasingly expensive maintenance and replacement issues associated with wooden ties and ECOTRAX provides them with a solution on a global scale. Over the last two years, we have expanded our business worldwide and continue to produce a very consistent quality product which is being recognized by both existing and new customers."
