MMT Chats: 5 in 5 with Medline Industries
MoldMaking Technology Editorial Director Christina Fuges gets leading mold builders to reveal 5 best practices for improving efficiencies in culture, technology, process, measuring success and staying competitive ... in 5 minutes.
This special MMT Chat Series delivers five best practices in five minutes on ways to improve efficiencies. My guest today is Rick Seaberg, an engineering manager for Medline Industries of Northfield, Illinois—who is also one of MMT’s newer Editorial Advisory Board members.
Here are his five quick answers in a nutshell (watch the quick 5-minute video for his full answers):
1 How do you create and maintain an employee-centered culture?
I think the most important thing is that it has to be driven from the top down. If management doesn't buy into it and support it, it's not going to go anywhere. Secondly, training. You have to invest in your employees from a training standpoint.
2 What are your top technology investments & why?
A good ERP system because data is king. You have to collect data and react to the data. Next an ultrasonic cleaning system. It will help reduce labor for mold maintenance.
3 What is your latest process improvement?
Implement the mold maintenance practices; develop standardization in the process.
4 How do you measure success/metrics?
Currently, our measurements for success are PM completions (completed versus scheduled) and OEE.
5 How do you stay competitive/take advantage of new business opportunities?
