ANAHEIM CONVENTION CENTER ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA IN ASSOCIATION WITH SHOW daily Produced by the editors of www.theCAMX.org/mobile theCAMX.org WEDNESDAY | October 19, 2022 CAMX keynote explore opportunities, challenges of technology innovation By Je Sloan, Editor-in-Chief, CompositesWorld CAMX 2022 was o cially kicked o yesterday with a keynote address in front of an audience of about 700 people that reviewed today’s innovation landscape and explored the poten-tial for new technologies to cross markets and industries, and create unprecedented disrup-tions and business opportunities. e keynote speaker was Michael Steep, a former technology executive with exten-sive Silicon Valley experience helping guide product development with companies like Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Apple. He also has worked with XEROX PARC, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based advanced R&D rm. Steep began by noting that the level and pace of invention and innovation today is greater than it has been any time in human history. Further, this dynamic environment of creativity has spawned a similarly unprec-edented convergence of technologies and markets that ripples throughout the materials and manufacturing world. “Convergence is sort of like taking one plus one and getting The keynote speaker was Michael Steep, a former technology executive with extensive Silicon Valley experience helping guide product development with companies like Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Apple. He also has worked with XEROX PARC, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based advanced R&D fi rm. ve,” Steep said. “We are leverage multiple disciplines in multiple markets.” One of the consequences of this innovation and convergence, Steep said, is the generation of vast amounts of data — manufacturing data, sensor, consumer data. Much of this data, he argued, is beyond the capacity of humans to manage and make sense of. “ e exponential curve in technology convergence and growth is a wonderful thing, but the chal-lenge is the limited ability of humans to keep up,” he said. “How do we manage and then leverage this growth?” Such disruption and convergence challenges See KEYNOTE, continued on page 5 EVENTS NOT TO MISS 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. PDT (Lobby C, Level 1) All locations are Anaheim Convention Center, unless otherwise noted CAMX Awards and ACE winners revealed on Tuesday By Je Sloan, Editor-in-Chief, CompositesWorld CAMX features two award programs, and the winners of each were announced yesterday. e CAMX Awards were presented at the General Session Tuesday morning; the Awards for Composites Excellence (ACE), given by the American Composites Manufacturing Assn.
