As Seen In CompositesWorld

Another opportunity to meet, and learn, in Paris
At the JEC World 2017, improvements in materials and processes were present at nearly every stand, with the emphasis on automotive-capable production speeds.

Wet and dry peel plies
Thinking of using only peel ply as adhesive bonding surface prep? You should understand all of the issues involved.

Webinar: Composites repair strategies
Henkel is hosting two free webinars, titled "Composite Repair Methods and Solutions." The first, on Sept. 21, will target composites professionals in North America. The second, on Sept. 22, will target European professionals.

Structural adhesives, Part II: Aerospace
Tried-and-true legacy epoxies are a must for aerospace composites, but usage is increasing with improved forms.

Ahrma launches new ‘smart’ wood-composite pallet
It combines wood-composite materials with the Internet of Things (Iot).

Henkel opens new composite test center in Germany
Automotive customers can do trials using high-pressure resin transfer molding (HP-RTM) equipment.

CW webinar: Materials for propulsion applications
CompositesWorld is hosting two free Henkel-sponsored webinars, titled, "Material Selection for Propulsion Applications."

JEC World 2016: Automotive highlights
On the automotive side, Henkel (Düsseldorf, Germany) emphasized on its JEC stand a glass fiber-reinforced composite leaf spring, based on Henkel’s polyurethane matrix resin Loctite MAX 2, used in the chassis of the new Volvo (Gothenberg, Sweden) XC90, a premium crossover SUV; the platform of this vehicle is expected to be applied to other Volvo cars in the coming years.

JEC World 2016, the full report
CompositesWorld's editors report on the technologies and products that caught our eye at JEC World 2016, in early March.

The matrix (2017)
The matrix binds the fiber reinforcement, gives the composite component its shape and determines its surface quality. A composite matrix may be a polymer, ceramic, metal or carbon. Here's a guide to selection.

Composites for repair (2017)
Composites offer cost-effective means to repair, protect and/or strengthen structures made of steel, concrete or other materials.

Tooling (2017)
Composite parts are formed in molds, also known as tools. Tools can be made from virtually any material. The material type, shape and complexity depend upon the part and length of production run. Here's a short summary of the issues involved in electing and making tools.

Aircraft composites repair moves toward maturity
New technologies seek to address the challenges MROs will increasingly face in the age of commercial airliners with composite airframes.

A growing trend: 3D printing of aerospace tooling
Toolmakers and OEMs are embracing additive manufacturing for customized, rapid tools, masters and jigs.

3D Printing Moves Into Tooling Components
Some pundits predict that 3D printing, or additive manufacturing (AM), will change our world forever. While that may yet be, one thing is clear: The growth of 3D printing over the past two decades has wrought significant change in composites tooling. Although AM’s most obvious advantage is direct part production without tooling, the growing trend in the aerospace and automotive sectors at present is its use for fast, on-demand builds of mold tools to keep pace with accelerating composite part design cycles and demand for faster overall part processing speeds.

Webinar: Benzoxazine resins for composite tooling
Two free webinars, one for the Americas and the other for Europe, will review the benefits and application of benzoxazine resins in composite tooling fabrication.

Ascent Tooling Group ascends via innovation
The world’s largest metal and composite moldmaker has a new name and continues to make a name for itself in closer control of large-part dimensional tolerance.

Webinar: Adhesives for bonding metals and composites
A new CompositesWorld webinar, sponsored by Henkel, will discuss application and benefits that can be achieved using film and paste adhesives.

Slideshow: Scenes from JEC Europe 2015
The entire composites value chain recently embarked onto the City of Light for JEC Europe 2015 (March 10-12). The largest trade show for the industry continues to grow in size, with exhibitors and visitors up by a reported 13%, according to the show organizer, JEC Group. As expected, there was plenty of new technology, applications and innovation proudly displayed at the show. Click through the slideshow to see some of the highlights CW found when walking the show floor.

Webinar: Syntactics in aerospace structures
Henkel is offering two webinars on use of syntactics in aerospace structures, one on Jan. 28 for North American attendees and the second on Jan. 29 for European attendees.
