Sugino Corp. (Itasca, Ill.) has introduced the newest addition to its waterjet cutting family, the Katana2 waterjet cutting system. This high-precision tool is designed for cutting carbon fiber composites, titanium, stainless steel and other hard materials, including copper and glass. Using Sugino’s newly developed, extra-fine abrasive nozzle, the Katana2 can achieve cutting diameters as small as 0.012 inch/0.3 mm at pressures up to 43,500 psi/300 MPa. With a footprint of 57 inches wide by 81 inches deep (1,435 mm by 2,050 mm), the Katana2 is said to use 60 percent less abrasive materials and consume four times less power than traditional waterjets, thus reducing operating costs by 40 percent.
