Chem-Trend (Howell, MI, US) has added a new series of water-based primer products for its Chemlease and Zyvax brands, creating a full water-based release system for composites manufacturers. Specially formulated to overcome challenges in wind, aerospace and fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) markets, the water-based primers will be available in most countries and in worldwide distribution in the coming months. The water-based primers join Chem-Trend’s existing water-based product portfolio, including Chemlease and Zyvax release agents, cleaners, sealers and topcoats. Benefits include a high gloss on tool surfaces for high-quality finished parts, reduced volatile organic compound content, extended periods between top-coat touch-ups, reduced odors and advanced tool-surface conditioning to help eliminate defects. Formulated to effectively fill in porosity and close surfaces on new molds and repaired areas, the new series also can be used to resurface worn tooling for extended equipment life and improved part quality. Chem-Trend says the water-based primer matches the same performance standard as the company’s proven solvent-based primer series of products and provides a longer working application window.
