LMT Onsrud LP (Waukegen, Ill.), a manufacturer of solid carbide cutting tools for aerospace and advanced materials, has introduced a new cutting tool to under cut honeycomb core for potted fasteners. The 34-100 series tools are said to eliminate the inconsistencies in producing holes in aircraft interior panels to mount potted, glued-in fasteners. LMT Onsrud notes that some mechanics have used cut-off Allen wrenches, coat hangers and bent screwdrivers to make the offset around the hole where a fasteners is glued in place. The 34-100 series is offered in the four most common fastener sizes and in three cut lengths. The lengths of cut allow for one-pass machining. The tools are also coated for extended tool life.
