Norplex-Micarta (Postville, Iowa) recently announced the availability of its NP613 high-performance thermoset composite material, which the company says can offer increased structural strength and electrical insulation properties when used to separate and isolate electrical contacts in transformer applications. The product is oil-resistant and provides protection against arcing caused by the input voltage or changes in voltage, preventing transformer failure. The composite reportedly maintains dimensional stability at elevated operating temperatures (maximum working temperature of 140°C/284°F) and has a flexural strength of 27,000 psi/186 MPa and a compressive strength of 40,000 psi/276 MPa. norplex-micarta.gocomp.biz/14
